F.A.Q.

Have some questions about Massage Therapy at Vital Wellness Centre? Or perhaps other questions you might be a little bit embarrassed to ask? No worries – here are some of the most Frequently Asked Questions about Massage. If these don’t answer your questions – worry not! Contact us through email, phone or even through social media about any questions you may have regarding our clinic, Massage Therapy, etc.

There are many forms of massage therapy that exist – some meant to relax and destress you, others meant to relieve you of your pain and discomfort – and some that’ll do a little bit of both! If you’re not sure which type of massage makes sense for you – check out our blog that explains everything you need to know about each form of massage therapy we offer.

Vital Wellness Centre is a Hands-On Therapy health professionals clinic that focuses on Empathetic Care, Patient Empowerment and Effective treatments. As of right now we provide Massage Therapy in the form of Relaxation, Deep Tissue and Therapeutic Massage. In each form of Massage – various techniques may be used including but not limited to:

  • Joint Mobilizations
  • Myofascial Release
  • Medical Acupuncture
  • Dynamic Cupping
  • Trigger Point Therapy

You don’t need a doctor’s note to have a massage therapy session, however some insurance companies and extended healthcare coverage require a doctor’s note before covering any claims. Check with them to see what requirements need to be fulfilled in order for you to have a massage therapy session covered by a third party.

Being self-conscious is understandable – however you should try to make the effort to discuss these things with your therapist to see what workarounds are possible. If you don’t want a certain part of body to be exposed, let alone worked on, please let your Massage Therapist know!

It isn’t rude to request a certain gender to work with you at all! People have their preferences and we want you to stay within your comfort zones. Let us know what your preferences are and we’ll definitely do our best to accommodate you!

This is a common thing that occurs – a lot of people who are stressed, those who have issues with sleeping, or are super zen can end up falling asleep during a massage. If that happens, feel no shame! Mellow out, relax and catch some Z’s!

It’s best that you try to go to the washroom prior to your appointment to avoid any interruptions. Most of the time it’ll be difficult to accommodate any interruptions during your session.

If you have coverage through your benefits (or through spousal or familial benefits that include you), then your massage therapy session may be partially or even fully covered. It all depends on your specific insurance plan that you have – and what they are able to cover. We are not able to tell you what your insurance plan can cover unless we attempt to bill you for it (with your explicit consent of course). This is due to your insurance plan being exclusively private to you – third party members including clinics like us cannot (and should not) be able to access that information unless you provide us with it!

Registered Massage Therapy is a health care professional industry. Some believe that it isn’t appropriate to be tipped because it’s a regulated health care professional’s industry – and not necessarily a service-industry. However, that’s not always the belief – really you should check with your Massage Therapist to see what they’re comfortable with.

Deep Tissue Massage Therapy is meant to target the deeper muscles and connective tissue that relaxation massage would not be able to reach on its own. It does not (and probably should not) be painful – it can sometimes be less than comfortable but never painful. If it does reach a pressure that you find is causing you pain, let your Massage Therapist know! Everyone’s pain tolerance is different!
